GASTRIC MUCOSAL PROTECTION Peripheral mechanisms of gastric mucosal protection: mediators, receptors Gastric mucosal barrier to acid

چکیده
Gastric mucosal integrity can be influenced both by peripheral and central mechanisms. In the last decades the peripheral mechanisms of gastric mucosal defense have been intensively studied, and many details have been clarified. Some of these results have served as a basis for the development of new strategies, therapeutic targets in the treatment of gastric mucosal lesions. On the other hand, in the last 20 years, central regulation of gastric mucosal protection has been intensively studied as well, and convincing evidence was obtained on the role of central nervous system (CNS) in the regulation of gastric mucosal integrity. However, several mechanisms of the centrally induced gastric mucosal protection have not been clarified yet, and further studies are needed to determine the role of CNS under physiological and pathophysiological conditions in gastric mucosal homeostasis as well as to reveal how the central regulatory mechanisms can be utilized in human therapy.

Effect of sodium hydrosulfide on mRNA expression of prostaglandin E2 receptors in response to mucosal acidification and distention-induced gastric acid secretion in rats
Objective(s): Prostaglandins have been shown to mediate the gastro-protective effect of sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) but effect of NaHS on mRNA expression of prostaglandin E2 receptors (EP1, 3-4; EPs) has not been investigated. Therefore, this study designed to evaluate the effect of NaHS on mRNA expression of EPs receptors in response to mucosal acidification and distention-induced gastric acid ...

Modulating the activity of the endocannabinoid system influences various gastrointestinal physiological and pathophysiological processes, and cannabinoid receptors as well as regulatory enzymes responsible for the synthesis or degradation of endocannabinoids representing potential targets to reduce the development of gastrointestinal mucosal lesions, hemorrhage and inflammation. Direct activati...
متن کاملSubstance P induces gastric mucosal protection at supraspinal level via increasing the level of endomorphin-2 in rats.
The aim of the present study was to analyze the potential role of substance P (SP) in gastric mucosal defense and to clarify the receptors and mechanisms that may be involved in it. Gastric ulceration was induced by oral administration of acidified ethanol in male Wistar rats. Mucosal levels of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and somatostatin were determined by radioimmunoassay. For anal...
متن کاملGastric cytoprotection by prostaglandin E₂ and prostacyclin: relationship to EP1 and IP receptors.
Endogenous prostaglandins (PGs) play a role in modulating mucosal integrity and have various functions in the stomach, with E type PGs being the most effective. PGE₂ provides gastric cytoprotection against damage induced in rats by HCl/ethanol, indomethacin, or acid back-diffusion after barrier disruption. These effects were mimicked by EP1 agonists and/or attenuated by an EP1 antagonist, and d...
متن کاملGastric Pathology (16-Dec-2003)
Gastric Ulceration in the Adult Gastric ulceration syndrome (GUS), a complicated and multi-factorial problem, is a common disorder of the stomach of mature horses. Horses that are turned out to pasture and are not involved in work have normal stomachs as do most horses used for light work or pleasure (Murray 1994). In recent years the widespread nature of this disorder has gained increased reco...
